Visiting the Stair Auction Preview for 8/9 May and Bidding!

The upcoming Stair Auction Galleries American, English and Continental Furniture and Decoration sale is packed with interesting finds. We went to the preview this week in Hudson, NY. There are over 1100 lots, which is huge. It's largely traditional furniture and decoration.

We founds loads to entice us. We liked a number of paintings, and they have a great selection of carpets. Some of the chandeliers made us wish we had a place for one or two! That's the problem - just not enough room for all the tempting items.

The prices as is often the case with Stair are lower on average than in New York City. That's the extra fun of it. It's kind of a secret, but not really. You'll read that it's been 'discovered' by decorators and dealers, and us!

I could just take this sofa, painting and sconces happily home. The painting is a bit out of my league at an estimate range of $15 - $25,000 (Lot #372A: ATTRIBUTED TO EDMUND CHARLES TARBELL (AMERICAN, 1862-1938). The sofa is contemporary and estimated at $1,500 to $3,000 (Lot 718). I love the yellow upholstery.

They have some very interesting Biedermeier pieces in the sale, and this armoire caught our eye. It's estimated at $1800 to $2200, and some wonderful ebonized detailing that is difficult to see in the photo (Lot 825)

We bid on some decorative objects.

We'll see how we do. Tune in for the results!
